Sand preparation refers to the preparation and processing of molding sand during the casting process to ensure it meets casting process requirements, such as strength and permeability. Molding sand typically consists of raw sand, binders, and additives, and is prepared through steps such as mixing, cooling, and screening. In the foundry industry, the quality of molding sand directly impacts the quality of castings, making sand preparation a critical step in foundry production.
The molding sand mixer, based on Co-Nele's unique mixing process, is a key element in the sand preparation process.
The Co-Nele sand mixer has three key components:
■ A rotating mixing disc continuously moves the mixed material into the path of the rotating mixing tools. Because the material conveying and mixing actions are separated, maximum energy is applied to the molding sand.
■ The extremely low-wear rotating mixing tools ensure ideal mixing intensity and energy transfer.
■ A multi-functional tool acts as a bottom/wall scraper, providing additional agitation. It prevents lumps in the mixing disc and facilitates discharge at the completion of the mixing cycle.
Co-Nele's mixing solutions produce efficient mixing and consistently produce high-quality molding sand. The sand mixer is easy to maintain, low-wear, and highly energy-efficient:
■ Large openings on the mixing disc allow for easy maintenance
■ All major components (drives and gear units) are located outside the mixing disc
■ Wear parts are easily replaced
■ A fully loaded sand mixer can be easily restarted
■ Motor control using a frequency converter allows variable adjustment of energy input throughout the mixing cycle, further shortening batch processing times and enabling targeted influence on sand properties.
